In this episode we returned to one of the central questions of theology: is it right to pray for a parking space? As I say in the programme, I believe in an interventionist God, but I’m not sure he intervenes in quite the way we think.
I was also really touched this week by an email from someone who, in the middle of a sad and difficult time, experienced a moment of mindfulness and grace. It’s not just physical places – mental states can also be holy ground. Sadness can be filled with profound moments of connection with the divine.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot this week, both in acknowledging my own sadness at the moment, but also recognising it for what it is: a movement to a new state. It’s OK to grieve for the past – necessary, even. But the story is still being written. And nice things can still happen.
